On My Nightstand in May

Guys and girls, what do you have planned to read in the upcoming months of spring and summer?

Here are a few of the items I’m looking at right now on my nightstand!

Gods and Kings by Lynn Austin

Diary Of A Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney

Sacred Influence-Gary Thomas

His Princess Bride-Sherri Rose Shepherd

Oh and lots of birthday cards! :)

Tangents and Rabbit Trails

I’ve had a random morning, so do you wanna know what’s taking up my brain space?

Here we go…train of thought, tangent, random and just plain too many thoughts all in less than a minute. :) That’s how we roll right?

I have to get the exterior of the house painted. 5 estimates later, it’s time to make a decision. I kinda like this shirt I’m wearing today…got it for $2.97 at JCPenneys. I’m so overdue for a haircut and color…coming up on Wednesday and I can’t wait! How the heck am I supposed to take care of this lawn that doesn’t want to be a lawn? Anybody know how to xeriscape and wanna come xeriscape my yard with me? What’s for lunch y’all? I need to talk to my parents.  My kids are so fun. I’m excited about spring. I like flowers in the garden. My dog and her muddy paws get on my nerves. I love poppies…which makes me think of Georgia O’Keeffe and her famous poppies…which make me think of having to frame a couple of prints I got at the Georgia O’Keeffe museum in New Mexico…which makes me think of my boy who was born in New Mexico…which makes me think that this week is field day at his school…which makes me think this is the last full week of school for both kids. The boy graduates from elementary school next week. I leave for El Salvador on Sunday. I need to buy some gifts for the babies I’ll see in El Salvador next week. The girl graduates form middle school next week. I need to help with the end of 8Th grade Survivor party next Friday. I really should get back to work…

Beloved

Is it strange to you to think that you are loved? Not only loved, but somebody’s beloved?

We are greatly loved and dear… not just to anyone, but dear to the heart of the creator of the universe.

Really?!  Do you feel that in your life, that you are cherished, precious or the sweet darling to God?

Sometimes our life experiences make it difficult to recognize that we are precious to God. Sometimes it feels like God doesn’t even know who we are are, much less that we are His beloved. That’s why this week is so important in the Christian faith.  A time to recognize that God sent his lovely and precious son to die an ugly death so that he could prove His great love for us.  Today I hope you feel loved,  treasured and realize that you are worth dying for.

For You on St. Patrick’s Day

Here is a portion of St. Patrick’s Breast Plate for you today. May you be blessed friends.

I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through belief in the threeness,
Through confession of the oneness
Of the Creator of creation…

I arise today
Through the strength of heaven:
Light of sun,
Radiance of moon,
Splendor of fire,
Speed of lightning,
Swiftness of wind,
Depth of sea,
Stability of earth,
Firmness of rock…

I arise today
Through God’s strength to pilot me:
God’s might to uphold me,
God’s wisdom to guide me,
God’s eye to look before me,
God’s ear to hear me,
God’s word to speak for me,
God’s hand to guard me,
God’s way to lie before me,
God’s shield to protect me,
God’s host to save me
From snares of devils,
From temptations of vices,
From everyone who shall wish me ill,
Afar and anear,
Alone and in multitude…

I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through belief in the threeness,
Through confession of the oneness,
Of the Creator of Creation.

I Love Stakes

I’m excited for this weekend as I get to see some old friends and I got a voice mail from one of my dearest friends who reminded me of something I had posted about a couple of years ago, so maybe I’ll revisit that post today…

It takes a stake to produce some steaks…tomato types of course. A friend explained to me how closely that relates to friendship and it made such perfect sense.
In the summer, we see the amazingly delicious fruit on a tomato plant, ripe and ready to eat and think nothing of how it got to be there. We don’t see that there was a stake holding it up as it grew. Really if it wasn’t for the stake, that fruit wouldn’t have had a chance to develop into what it is.

Sometimes we just need something or someone to lean on. It might just be for a season, or it might be for several, possibly even for a lifetime, but without that support we can’t grow and we never reach any heights. We all need stakes in our lives. People to hold us up, people for us to lean into, people who direct us out of the shadows and into the light. Without the stake, we just end up as ground cover. So be thankful for the supporting stakes in your life. I know I am!
