Amazed and In Love

I got to hold a brand new baby today. He wasn’t even 24 hours old yet. It’s amazing what happens to me as I hold babies, especially, newborns. I love staring at their little faces. So Perfect. Everything just the way God intended for each little one to be.

Perfect little eyes, a wee little nose, a precious little mouth, itty bitty little ears. A perfect hairline and precious precious baby hairs following the curves that only the Creator himself could’ve made by running his fingers over each baby’s head.

What an amazing little gift and responsibility each and every child is. I sit there and think of all the experiences ahead for the little one and his mom and dad.

I go into a place in my brain where I run through all the memories in fast forward with my babies…everything from pregnancy to delivery to today…now. All those sleepless nights that blur and fade into all the little milestones, holidays, birthdays, laughter, tears, frustrations, sicknesses, experiences…and hopes for the future.

I think my favorite part today of holding this little one was whispering in his ear that I love him and how excited I am that he’s finally here and how I can’t wait  to see him grow into all the days ahead.

Amazing…no other way to explain it.

Finances and Insecurity

money shot

So, I’m gonna tell you some stuff about me, but I want you to tell me some stuff about you.

I’m in an interesting place in life and because of that I’ve discovered some stuff about myself which includes these truths:

  1. I hate debt and want to get out of it as quickly as possible.
  2. I do not appreciate that my yard is dead and landscaping costs are exorbitant.
  3. I am thankful that the exterior of my house is finally painted and I won’t have to worry about that for a while.
  4. I do not like that the fence looks like it needs to be replaced.
  5. I’m sick of the piles and piles of stuff that have accumulated in my basement over the years(garage sale, here we come).

Okay, so those are a few of my things that I don’t like to talk about, but have taken up way too much brain space in my head recently. Do you see a common theme? Most of it has to do with money. I get it… issues with finances make me feel insecure!

But here’s the deal, I’m done with being afraid to tackle things(ie…the fence, the yard, the paint etc…) because of 1. the cost, or 2. my ignorance of the issue(investing, retirement planning, etc…).

So this is my little statement to say that I’m gonna take control of this area of my life (Uh…helloooo Dave Ramsey!) so that I won’t live in fear about something I have absolute control over.

The End.

Okay, so tell me…are you living a financially healthy lifestyle? Do  you have debt? If you are debt-free, how did you achieve that?

This week I heard

This week I sat with a girl who makes pinatas.

This week I sat with a boy who raises chickens.

This week I sat with a mom who felt the same way about her little boy that I felt about my little boy when he was born.

This week I sat with a mom who greets her baby in the morning by saying, “I Love You.”

This week I met a mom who didn’t want to have a baby.

This week I met a pastor who turned a bar into a church.

This week I sat with a boy who defied the odds.

This week I sat with a mom who cried tears of joy for her son.

This week I sat with a bus driver who provides for his family.

This week I sat with a translator who has a son in speech therapy.

This week I sat and was humbled.

This week I sat and rejoiced.

This week I took time to listen to someone else’s story.

This week I heard God speak to me and tell me how much he loves each of these people…and also how He loves me.

Oh and lots of birthday cards! :)

What’s Your Shirt Say?

My friend Chris gave me a t-shirt a couple of years ago before we ran our first marathon together. The shirt said, “Freakishly Strong.”

Funny how empowering a t-shirt could be.

A few years ago, my brother gave me a t-shirt that said, “You won’t find a pink basket on this girl’s bike.”

Funny how revealing a t-shirt could be.

When I was only a few years old, my dad (in America at the time) sent a t-shirt for me to wear in India that said, “Anything a boy can do, A girl can do better.”

Funny how defining a t-shirt could be.

During my birthday party the other day, I asked for words as gifts…I love words…maybe that’s why something as silly as a t-shirt takes on more meaning to me than most people.

Running Divas T

My friend Chris didn’t know it, but she gave me that shirt at just the right time…when I was feeling pretty weak and uncertain of who I was.

Funny isn’t it? So, what’s your shirt say? What words have defined you?
